讲述了侯德榜少年时期在家乡福建省闽侯县的成长故事。少年时期的侯德榜半耕半读，勤奋好学，有“挂车攻读”的美名，在爷爷的鼓励下，他进入了十三姑开办的洋学堂，开始接触到西方的先进文化思想。在少年时期，他看见洋人用“鸦片”残害同胞的身心，和伙伴刘望利、小双、十三姑、严大仙一起揭露洋人的恶行，并想法找出治疗疟疾的药品。在目睹了洋人欺凌国人的时候，侯德榜逐渐的走上了科技救国的道路，一路上很多人见证了他的成长。。经验丰富的现役救护总队目麦在田（马德钟饰），拥有幸福完整的家庭，却因为司机醉驾，令老婆章可岚（李佳芯饰）失救致死，因此痛恨任意妄为的人和事。自小父母离异的卓家杰（何广沛饰）机缘巧合，成为麦在田下属。透过二人经历不同的救护案件，让观众感受到救护员一句安慰说话，或是无声陪伴，能减轻市民面对受伤的恐慌，与死亡的孤寂。。Cosimo, a buffalo farmer, refuses to sell off his land to the family of the young mayor candidate.
