"Daughters of the Dust" tells the story of a family of African-Americans who have lived for many years on a Southern offshore island, and of how they come together one day in 1902 to celebrate their ancestors before some of them leave for the North. The film is narrated by an unborn child, and ancestors already dead also seem to be as present as the living.。年轻的安·勃格是个有理想有抱负的实习医师，当其在一处事故现场做调查时，安吃惊地发现肇事者原来是一只鳄鱼。从伤势的严重程度来看，这一定是一只巨鳄。巨鳄就藏身在河里的某个地方。。江氏集团继承人江慕辰被迫迎娶爷爷战友的孙女——夏语。看到渔村村姑夏语后，江慕辰难以置信此人竟是爷爷给自己安排的联姻对象。更让他无法接受的是，江老下达死命令让他务必带着夏语参加晚宴。出于对爷爷的报复，江慕辰决定让夏语就以村姑的姿态出现在宴会上。孰料当晚夏语盛装出席，惊艳全场，令江慕辰也目瞪口呆。原来江老早就算到了这一步，安排江家二公子江安辰带着夏语进行了换装大改造。江老甚至当场宣布夏语与江慕辰的婚约…。
