该剧讲述了一个虚构电视台“亚特兰蒂斯有线新闻台”台前幕后的故事。威尔‧麦卡沃伊是一位资深新闻节目主持人，为ACN电视网八点档旗舰节目《晚间新闻》带来超高收视率，但因为飞扬跋扈、刚愎自用，引发过团队成员的不满。在他刚结束休假回到办公室后，发现他的大部分部下将要另谋他就，集体被挖角。麦卡沃伊的老板、ACN电视网新闻部部长查理·斯金纳有卓越的眼光与新闻理想，知道该如何拯救一档新闻节目，眼光更是准得惊人。他不但没有放弃麦卡沃伊，更利用他的工作能力竭力维护这档节目中的所有人才。这一次，麦卡沃伊不得不带领一批全新的团队成员，重振《晚间新闻》的旗鼓。但是事情发展却没有想象中顺利，麦卡沃伊的团队不断受到来自各方的阻力甚至威胁。。Kaufman's Game follows Stanley, a driven young man with a passion for boxing, who is keen to improve his strength and stamina.
